Questions About Chiropractic Care

What will my first visit be like?
At your first visit to Wider Horizons Chiropractic in Wauwatosa, you will:

  • Fill out paperwork about your health concerns
  • Answer some questions about your health concerns
  • Receive a detailed examination
  • Receive spinal scans (non-invasive and pain free)
  • Schedule a follow up visit to review your exam results

Plan to spend 20 minutes with us on your first visit.

How many visits will it take to "fix" me / my problem?
An exam is required to determine how many visits will be appropriate for you.

Care recommendations are based on your overall level of health, your history and exam findings, as well as the type of work you do and lifestyle you live.

What does my spine have to do with the health of my entire body?
Your spine protects your spinal cord.

Your spinal cord is essential for sending and receiving messages to the rest of your body.

Your nervous system literally controls every cell in your body (feeling, movement, digestion, breathing, etc).

If you have tension on your spine, it creates tension in your nervous system, which irritates nerves. Irritated nerves irritate the tissues they supply nerve flow to.

Irritated tissues don't function properly, causing symptoms like pain, numbness, tingling, headaches, indigestion, constipation, shortness of breath, weakened immune system, and on and on and on.

The health of your spine directly relates to the health of the rest of your body.

I do not like experiencing the "snap" or "pop" in my spine. Can I still see a chiropractor?
Yes.

There are many chiropractic techniques, and only a few that cause the "snap" or "pop" noise. (The snap or pop is called joint cavitation and is caused by the release of gas from the joint.)

Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) is a technique used in our office. There are no "snap" or "pop" noises with an NSA adjustment.

If I start seeing a chiropractor, will I have to go for the rest of my life?
When you go to the chiropractor, you receive the benefits of a chiropractic adjustment. If you stop going to the chiropractor, you stop receiving the benefits of a chiropractic adjustment.

If you want to receive the benefits of working out or eating healthy, you have to continue to work out and eat healthy. Chiropractic works in a similar way.

What exactly is NSA chiropractic?
NSA, or Network Spinal Analysis, is a very gentle chiropractic technique.

The doctor will use light touches to your spine to stimulate your nerves. This helps you heal from the inside out.

As is true with all chiropractic care, your body is doing all the healing, the chiropractor simply helps coordinate the process.

Do I need to continue getting adjusted if I'm not in pain?
The absence of pain does not necessarily equal health. We use high-tech nervous system scans to determine if you have underlying functional problems in your nervous system.

We want you feeling and functioning fine!

What will my first adjustment be like?
If we think we can help you and it is safe to adjust, on your second visit to the office you will receive your fist chiropractic treatment called an adjustment.

How your first adjustment feels will vary depending on the technique used. The doctor will help you using an approach you feel comfortable with."
